WORK SCHEDULE:             MONDAY – FRIDAY, 7:00 A.M. - 3:30P.M.

SUMMARY: 

Performs a wide variety of skilled and unskilled assignments related to the maintenance, repair or construction of park irrigation systems, athletic fields and park and open space facilities and associated equipment. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs park maintenance duties including various combinations of the following:  irrigates, mows, weeds, trims, renovates, and fertilizes turf areas; plants, irrigates, prunes, and removes trees, shrubs, bushes, and flowers; clears snow, leaves, trash and debris from rights-of-way, sidewalks, streets, and sports fields; empties trash receptacles and transports rubbish; assists in the maintenance and installation of computerized park irrigation systems; assists in the cleaning of parks, restrooms, cemetery, park facilities and public grounds; conducts safety inspections for all park facilities, playgrounds, equipment and public grounds and informs supervisor of repairs needed; performs a variety of tasks involving carpentry, cement, painting, plumbing, and electrical work; operates all necessary motorized equipment including mowers, pickup and dump trucks, pick up truck mounted plows, front end loaders, backhoes, and similar equipment; assists in performing routine service and maintenance on motor vehicles and equipment used on work assignments; maintains daily work and vehicle logs; sands, salts, and removes snow from city parking lots, streets, sidewalks and trails when necessary; Prepares grave sites for burials may oversee the work of seasonal park maintenance workers; and performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; one year of related experience in commercial landscape maintenance, sports field preparation or landscape construction; possession of CO Class R driver’s license; within one year of hire must be able to obtain CO Class B CDL with airbrake endorsement; possession of or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire First Aid and CPR certifications; ability to use and maintain tools and equipment used in parks, sports fields, grounds maintenance and cemetery operations; ability to learn basic construction and repair work; ability to comply with safety standards set forth by the City; ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment; ability to work in a rotating on-call schedule: ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the general public and ability to lift and carry 80 pounds.; knowledge and skill in the operation and maintenance of trucks, tractors, mowers, and all other equipment used in parks, sports fields, grounds maintenance, and cemetery operations is highly desirable. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
