The County of Greenwood, S.C. (population 70,355) is seeking a dynamic individual to become the next Public Works Director. Greenwood is located in the Lower Piedmont region of Upstate South Carolina and provides a friendly, small-town setting along with the progressive and active environment of a larger city.Greenwood is home to numerous community assets including Lake Greenwood, Lander University, Piedmont Technical College, Self-Regional Healthcare, Uptown Greenwood, excellent schools, churches, cultural opportunities, and much, more. The Public Works Department is responsible for the areas of Fleet Garage, Litter Prevention, Recycling, Road Maintenance Solid Waste Collection and Solid Waste Disposal (Landfill). In addition, this department oversees and ensures department compliance with inspections and prepares analyses, records and reports concerning inspections as necessary. Coordinates and monitors all regulations and codes established by OSHA, Water Resources, DHEC, EPA and other. The Public Works Department is also responsible for project management for various infrastructure and facility projects as needed as well as responding to emergency calls as needed.

The successful candidate will have strong organizational, communications and people skills; will possess a combination of education, training and experience necessary to meet the requirements of the position, including strong mathematical skills, plan drafting/reading, project management, extensive management experience and municipal employment.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS:

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering, environmental science, Business Administration or other relevant field, four years of experience in public works, engineering or construction operation, two of which has been in a management capacity OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
