Brief Description of the Job:

The Technology Services Technician works with minimum supervision, typically regarding matters requiring greater technical expertise. The Technology Services Technician provides technical support and services to City Staff and law enforcement and public safety departments. Serves as a primary resource for problem management and resolution. The Technology Services Technician must provide excellent customer service, resolve problems in a timely manner, communicate effectively, and be a positive contributor to the City of Decatur Technology Services Team.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Valid Class C Driver's License required.  Proficient in troubleshooting LAN, voice, wireless, various user devices (PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc).  Experienced in implementing, troubleshooting and securing wireless networks (802.11 a/b/g/n).  Experience with enterprise network devices preferred.  Certifications in A+, Server+, MCSA preferred.  TCIS-NCIC/TLETS-NLETS/Enhanced 911 Certification.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Installs, configures, and troubleshoots computer hardware, software applications, VoIP telephones, and other City related technologies Picks up and transports materials, tools and supplies  Notifies Director of technology Services of needed replacements and repairs.
  2. Analyzes and resolves problems associated with Windows or Android systems (including other user devices), and network systems and hardware.
  3. Applies security patches and service packs to software as needed for desktops, laptops and in-car systems.
  4. Assists in the technical planning for new administrative systems architecture and maintains documentation related to resolution of anomalies, computer and software inventories, and cable routing.
  5. Installs, configures, and maintains Avaya IP Office phone operations.
  6. Supports projects related to desktop computer equipment, cabling, surveillance cameras, in-car video systems and any other public safety related technologies.
  7. Handles Helpdesk Trouble Ticket Systems, Acts as a primary resource for problem management and resolution.
  8. Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end users and Technology Services Director.
  9. Keeps knowledge and skills updated by attending seminars and training classes, viewing webinars, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations. Keeps users updated by providing reference materials and support, and training end users as required.
  10. Maintains an accurate inventory and documentation of computer equipment, network equipment, applications.
  11. May perform other duties as requested.  Regular attendance is required.

 

FLSA:      Non-exempt                           Hours:    Full-time, M-Fr        Salary Range:    $40,000-$50,000 annually

                                                                                8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

                                                                                On-call occasionally
