Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare is seeking an innovative, solutions-oriented, approachable, professional licensed Veterinarian to provide and oversee medical care for the animals at our city shelter. The Veterinarian will serve as a community leader, promoting the humane care and treatment of animals in the City of Amarillo. The Veterinarian will establish and maintain current protocols for herd health best practices in the shelter in regards to: vaccinations, quarantine practices, kennel sanitation, and biosecurity of the shelter. Candidates should be comfortable performing high volume spay and neuter of dogs and cats (training can be provided). Our shelter is an open-admission city shelter and is undergoing a transition under new leadership, which will include the addition of large-scale transports to no-kill shelters. Therefore, this position will require completing health certificates for animals transferring out of the shelter. The ideal candidate should perform well working in a fast paced and sometimes unpredictable environment. We are seeking a Veterinarian that promotes teamwork, wants to build bridges with our community, that will promote the ethical and thoughtful treatment of the animals in our care, and that wants to make a big difference for the animals in our community that are in need of our care and support. This position serves as a Veterinarian of Record for the City of Amarillo and a liaison to the Public Health and Environmental Health departments of the City of Amarillo. Our shelter has a separate building with a surgical suite for the veterinary team. This position will be required to work shifts including evening, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel. Doctorate in Veterinarian Medicine degree, or equivalent, from an AVMA accredited School of Veterinary Medicine is required Must possess Current State of Texas Veterinary License. Must maintain any relevant licenses as required by the State of Texas. Must hold or be eligible to hold a State Controlled Substance License and DEA License. Must be able to obtain a Basic Animal Control Certificate for the State of Texas within one (1) year of hire and be able to obtain pre-exposure rabies vaccinations within six (6) months of hire. Valid Texas Driver's License is required. Any Certification, training or experience in Shelter Medicine or experience with herd health is preferred. Salary: DOQ
