Description

Under general direction, the Building Inspector performs highly skilled work in the inspection and enforcement of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building, zoning, and sign codes and ordinances.  Provides respectful, courteous, and customer-friendly inspection services to residents, property owners, and the building community, and ensures the general safety of the public.

 

  • Provides excellent customer service; engages clearly, respectfully, and concisely with owners and the general public.
  • Performs on-site inspections to verify compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, zoning, and sign code requirements.
  • Interprets, advises, and answers questions for contractors, builders, and the general public on Town codes, building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing codes, ordinances, and other construction inquiries.
  • Provides proactive interpretation and enforcement of Town codes; determines violations and recommends corrective actions during construction processes.
  • Determines or recommends material and/or equipment needs.
  • Maintains inspection records including records of third party testing and reports from engineers, energy raters, and other professionals as required: issues letters, warnings or citations to contractors and property owners for non-compliance with Town Codes and/or Ordinances.
  • Shares, delegates, and prioritizes responsibilities; works as a team with co-workers to complete daily scheduled tasks in a timely manner.
  • Assists Code Enforcement Officers and related departments with complaints; keeps current with latest codes and regulations
  • Communicates with contractors; reads and interprets building construction plans and building construction codes and ordinances in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of experience in municipal inspections including plumbing and construction.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must hold a valid Texas Plumbing Inspector's License.
  • Preference may be  given  to  applicants  with  at  least  one  ICC  Commercial Inspectors certification or electrical license.
