Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to assist with providing financial and interpreting information and managing the accounting system. This is accomplished by working with auditors to ensure annual monitoring is maintained; reviewing all general ledger transactions and making corrections as needed; monitoring all cash and investments as needed; invoicing, reviewing, approving, and providing support for accounts payable and payroll; reviewing Board correspondence and preparing monthly financial statements; creating and mailing miscellaneous billings; maintaining relationships with outside contacts; assisting the Chief Operating Officer; interacting with customers; managing all advertisements and donations; supporting other departments as needed; following policies and procedures; and following directives from immediate supervisor. Other duties include acting as an Investment Officer; assisting with other projects and functions; and backing up the Chief Operating Officer, as needed. Additional duties may be assigned, based on organizational need.

Essential Functions

Assists with providing and interpreting financial information by preparing various financial reports; running queries in Microsoft Access; completing various audit reports; analyzing and understanding the implications of the data; compiling Board correspondence and needed documentation; providing information to insurance; and submitting sales tax to comptroller.  Manages the accounting system by checking each journal entry for accuracy; review general ledger entries and the trial balance monthly; crating non-routine journal entries as needed; and reviewing electric and miscellaneous bad debt charge-offs.  Monitors cash flow bank accounts daily for all activity; transferring and investing funds as needed; interacting with other departments to be aware of significant purchases or projects; reviewing, approving and providing support for accounts payable and payroll; and balancing bank statements.

Minimum Preferrred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; experience may be substituted in place of degree
  • Five years’ experience or bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of accounting and use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to deal with a system of real numbers
  • Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions and summaries
  • Valid Texas Class C driver’s license

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The employee will be required to work in an office setting. Physical requirements include, but are not limited to, standing, sitting, walking, lifting up to 10 pounds, fine dexterity, vision, hearing, and talking.  Working conditions may involve time pressures, frequent change of tasks, tedious or exacting work and multi-tasking.  Post job offer driving record, background check and drug screen required of external applicants.
