Firefighter/Paramedic (Shift 48 hours on & 96 hours off)

COMPENSATION: $20.28 - $22.31 HOURLY; DOQ

Under supervision of the Fire Shift Captain, this position is responsible for responding to emergency fire and medical incidents. Position provides support functions; including, vehicle and equipment maintenance, emergency responses, records and reporting duties, and emergency medical treatment. Position plans, organizes, directs and controls fire/rescue service functions as directed by the Shift Captain within applicable laws, codes, and departmental standard operating guidelines (SOG) and policies. Performs other related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED and possession of a valid state driver's license.  Experience in conducting and participating in emergency response operations, including experience in the administrative aspects of the work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be certified or licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Paramedic or be a Nationally Registered Paramedic. Must be certified as a Basic Structural Firefighter through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
 
Completion of the Basic Firefighter Wildland training course within 2 years from hire date,.           

SHIFT SCHEDULE

Firefighter/Paramedics are scheduled for 48 hours on and 96 hours off. There are 4 or 5 shifts per 28-day cycle with 13 cycles per year. Each cycle includes an average of 14 scheduled overtime hours. All hours worked beyond 212 hours in the 28-day cycle is overtime. Actual overtime is not a guarantee and depends upon several factors, including how the shifts fall in the 28-day cycle and minimum staffing requirements.
