Appointed by the Chief of Police and under the direction of the Patrol Commander, this is a supervisory ranked police officer position which serves as a section or shift supervisor and effectively plans, organizes, coordinates, directs or otherwise supervises departmental personnel, activities, and resources at the section, unit, or shift level.

If you are selected to participate in any of the following steps, you will be notified in writing via email
 
  • Written Exam:  September 14, 2020
  • Assessment Center:  September 24, 2020
  • Final Interviews:  September 29, 2020

 

 Examples of Duties:
  • Patrols specific beat assignment, if necessary, to promote public safety and enhance the quality of life in assigned area
  • Promotes a positive image in performing community-policing duties (community meetings, problem solving resources, etc.)
  • Provides a high level of supervision, training or direction
  • Conducts periodic reviews of crime analysis and trends and develops tactics and other crime prevention approaches as necessary after reviewing the city’s crime analysis software, such as RaidsOn Line and reviews crime trends as indicated with their respective shifts regularly
  • Performs periodic inspections of issued and non-issued equipment to ensure that it is good working order and that Officers’ uniforms and leather gear are fit for duty
  • Performs essential duties and responsibilities of a Police Officer as needed
  • Performs coaching, mentoring and leadership roles, on an ongoing basis and as necessary, to address behavior, attitudinal or performance issues with subordinates and reports any on-going performance issues up the chain-of-command
  • Provides effective control and coordination of resources and activities within the shift, unit or section to which assigned
  • Routinely performs inspections of operational functions to identify inefficient or ineffective processes and provides solutions
  • Coordinates activities with subordinates and other departmental personnel to ensure consistency in interpretation and implementation of Administrative Orders, City Ordinances, policies, procedures and laws
  • Develops own knowledge, skills and abilities to enhance and ensure continued success and meets all mandated training requirements as specified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) for the maintenance of a licensed peace officer
  • Develops the knowledge, skills and abilities of subordinates to enhance their probability of success
  • Researches current practices, techniques and methods for developing lesson plans, providing training and directing to subordinate personnel
  • Adheres to personnel, safety and departmental policies, procedures and Administrative Orders

 

 
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED);
  • Must have three (3) years’ experience as a certified, full time Police Officer with the Murphy Police Department; and/or (3) years as a certified, full time Police Officer with another law enforcement agency with a city population the same or greater than Murphy, and the same number of sworn employees or greater than Murphy, and similar types of calls for service with a similar call load to Murphy;
  • Intermediate Peace Officer certification as issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE);
  • No pending substantial employer disciplinary actions;
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License - driving record must be in compliance with City policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field from an accredited university;
  • Advanced level certification as issued by TCOLE.
Special Requirements
  • Required to pass a drug screen and/or pre?employment job performance assessment;
  • Required to work flexible hours and accept on-call duty and call out status.
 Supplemental Information:
Candidates who hold a Bachelor's Degree in a related field are eligible for an additional $250/MO in educational incentive pay.
