Description | JOB SUMMARYUnder general direction of the Assistant City Manager, the Director of Parks and Recreation, provides leadership, direction and general administrative oversight to the Parks and Recreation Department and employees responsible for the development, maintenance and operation of the City municipal park system, facilities and recreation programs; performs work involving significant community engagement and public involvement with elected officials, other policy makers and citizens; and serves as a member of the City’s Management Team, working collaboratively with City Management and other department leaders on strategies and policies to accomplish the City’s mission, strategic plan and other Council priorities. PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES
JOB QUALIFICATIONSRequired: Bachelor’s Degree in parks and recreation, business administration, or related field and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation, including five (5) years in a supervisory or management capacity, preferably within a local government (or related field). Texas Driver’s License. Experience and knowledge in park planning, facility design and construction, landscape maintenance, capital project management, recreation programs, and municipal finance procedures. Experience with applying the principles and practices of public parks and recreation management and administration, including knowledge of facility, equipment and staffing needs. Demonstrated success analyzing and reviewing the parks and building facility needs of a community and coordinating, planning for, and managing the efficient delivery of high-quality parks and recreation services. Proven track record in managing people and building relationships with community stakeholders. Proficiency in delivering recreation services to a diverse population and in optimizing participation. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of parks and recreation administration. Excellent oral and written communication abilities. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships and good communication with a variety of individuals; and demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and patience. Preferred: Master’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Public Administration or related field. Designation as Certified Park & Recreational Professional (CPRP) or Certified Park & Recreation Executive (CPRE).
