Description | JOB SUMMARY Under general direction of the Assistant City Manager, the Director of Planning and Development Services is responsible for the organization, direction and management of the Planning and Development Services Department, including the following working groups: Administration; Development Coordination; Long Range Planning; Transportation Planning; Bicycle, Pedestrian and Greenways Planning; Land development; Engineering; Infrastructure Construction and Inspections; Building Permitting, and Building Inspections. Responsible for preparing and implementing plans and programs necessary to address City Council issues, directives and special projects. PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES
JOB QUALIFICATIONS Required: Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning, architecture, civil engineering, construction management, public administration or related field, and seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible planning, engineering, building, or public administration experience, including five (5) years leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Texas Driver’s License. Knowledge of planning and development principles and practices. Knowledge of code administration, ordinance development and ordinance enforcement. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, and public presentation skills. Available for emergency responses. Preferred: Master’s Degree in urban planning, architecture, civil engineering, construction management, public administration or related field. Certification and/or licensure in planning, engineering, building, or public administration, such as American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) designation, Professional Engineer (P.E.), Certified Building Official (CBO), or Certified Public Manager (CPM). Experience working in a municipality.
