Description

Role:

Under general direction, monitors capital asset acquisitions and disposals on a Countywide basis and prepares financial reports related to capital assets.

Major Duties, Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a current database of all capital assets on a Countywide basis; updates the database for acquisitions, disposals, and transfers; and ensures acquisition documents are properly retained.  
  • Assists County departments with capital assets related issues, including assigning asset tag numbers to new capital assets, performing inventories, and resolving problems. 
  • Creates new vendors and updates vendor information.
  • Prepares capital asset schedules for the annual financial report. 
  • Reconciles capital asset acquisitions to capital expenditures.  
  • Assists Records Management with the retention and destruction of Finance records. 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: 
High school diploma or equivalent. 

Experience:  
A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in general and/or governmental accounting. 

Additional Requirements:
Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 
 Knowledge of:

  • Capital asset policies and accounting principles to ensure that the County is in compliance with financial reporting requirements.
  • Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
  • Clerical office practices and procedures.
  • Research techniques and report writing.
  • Current Microsoft Office software.
  • Filing and recordkeeping.


Skill in:

  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Organization and adherence to detail.


Ability to:

  • Maintain an accurate database of all County capital assets and process updates in a timely manner.
  • Complete monthly and periodic reconciliations within the prescribed time frame.
  • Prepare accurate capital asset schedules for the annual financial report in a timely manner.
  • Keep management informed of key operating issues relating to capital assets.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
  • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
  • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.  
  • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
  • Work professionally and effectively with co-workers, clients, victims of crime, witnesses, and the general public.
  • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.


Work Environment:
The work environment is associated with an office. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
